Flagship Pathways
DJing & Music Production Academy
Professional equipment, industry standard software and experienced musicians and producers. One of the flagship pathways built into a young person's personalised programme.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Hands on the equipment from the first session
Young people work with professional DJ equipment and industry standard software alongside experienced musicians and music production professionals. Nothing here is simulated and nothing is watered down.
Music gives young people a way to express what words sometimes cannot. That is often why it reaches someone that other subjects have not, and why emotional wellbeing tends to improve alongside educational engagement.

What young people do here
Sessions built around making something, then making it better
Every session ends with something that did not exist at the start of it.
Learn professional DJ techniques
Mixing and transitions taught on professional equipment, built up patiently from the basics.
Produce and record original music
Writing, recording and finishing a track that belongs to them, using industry standard software.
Build confidence through creative expression
Making something and then playing it to someone else is a small act of courage. It gets easier every time.
Improve focus, collaboration and communication
Finishing a track rewards patience and working with other people. Both get practised without ever being called a lesson.
Where a pathway can take someone
One young person's route back
A young person joined YoungEducation after a prolonged period out of education caused by severe anxiety. At first, engaging with learning or with other people was difficult.
The programme started with low pressure mentoring, practical activities and personalised English and Mathematics. As confidence grew, sport followed. Then music production, which turned out to be the thing that mattered. Attendance improved significantly and they moved on towards further education believing they could achieve a positive future.
Whilst every journey is different, this one reflects what we work towards for every young person who joins us.
Every Step Forward Matters
Success here is measured by far more than examination results. Returning to education after a long absence, achieving a first qualification, or finding the confidence to work alongside other people all count, and all get celebrated.
Where it can lead
Careers in music and the creative industries
Music production, live sound, events and the wider creative industries all start with the skills practised in this room. For young people in Post-16 provision that connects into careers planning, employability skills and preparation for further education, apprenticeships or work.
For everyone else it is a reason to be somewhere on time, and something to be genuinely proud of.

"I didn't think I'd enjoy education again, but everyone believed in me before I believed in myself. I've made friends, achieved qualifications and found something I'm really good at."
