Our Promise

Outcomes and Success

Success here is measured by far more than examination results. This page sets out the changes we look for, and what progress looks like in practice.

How we define it

Success looks different for every young person

Many of the young people we work with arrive after a long period of things not going well. Measuring them only against an end-point examination would miss almost everything that matters in the first year of a placement.

So we plan around milestones a young person can actually reach, and we record and celebrate each one. Achievement is built into the programme throughout rather than saved up for the end of it.

Forms of success we recognise

  • Returning to education after a prolonged absence
  • Achieving a first qualification
  • Developing the confidence to engage with others
  • Taking positive steps towards further education, employment or independent living

What changes

The improvements we look for

Across the young people we support, these are the areas where improvement is most often demonstrated over the course of a placement.

  • Engagement with education
  • Attendance and participation
  • Emotional regulation and resilience
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Social and communication skills
  • Academic attainment and recognised qualifications
  • Preparation for further education, apprenticeships and employment

Case study

A journey of success

One young person joined us after a prolonged period out of education caused by severe anxiety. At first they found it difficult to engage with learning or with social situations at all.

We started with low-pressure mentoring, practical activities and personalised English and Mathematics sessions. As confidence grew they joined the sport and fitness programme, and later discovered a real passion for music production.

They began earning recognised certificates for what they were achieving, and attendance improved significantly. By the end of the placement they had progressed towards further education and, most importantly, believed in their own ability to achieve a positive future.

Whilst every journey is different, this story reflects what we strive to achieve for every young person who joins YoungEducation.
